  • Discuss resume building opportunities such as: extracurricular activities; summer college programs; internships; employment; community service; and volunteerism

  • Guide students to select summer programs that enrich their interests and provide assistance with the application process

  • Explore test preparation strategies for the PSAT, SAT, and ACT

  • Assist students with selecting appropriate tutors, if requested

beginning the college journey (grades 11-12)

  • Help students develop an SAT/ACT test-prep and test-taking plan; which test(s) to take, when to take them, and how to properly prepare

  • Help students create a list of appropriate colleges to research, visit, and apply to

  • Prepare students for effective college visits

  • Advise student athletes regarding NCAA rules and regulations for Division I and Division II athletics

  • Guide students with learning differences to colleges that will provide appropriate services to meet the needs of the individual student

  • Review specific processes for performing and visual arts students

the college application process - from preparation to submission of materials (grade 12)

  • Meet with students and parents to guide them through a thorough college search process, resulting in a personalized college list

  • Discuss Early Action/Early Decision/Rolling Admission/Regular Decision options

  • Prepare students for alumni and on-campus interviews, when requested

  • Guide students on obtaining teacher and guidance counselor recommendations

  • Assist students with managing college deadlines

  • Brainstorm application essay ideas and provide feedback and direction during the essay writing process

  • Financial Aid referral, when requested

  • Discuss scholarship opportunities

  • Hands-on assistance with completion and submission of college applications before the student clicks “submit”

  • Guidance on submitting standardized test scores

  • Discuss strategies for wait lists and appeals

  • Discuss final enrollment decision
